Actors Viola Davis and Denzel Washington cover the 2016 Holiday Issue of Essence Magazine. Photographed by Kwaku Alston, Davis looks radiant in an oxblood leather dress, tapered fro and glowing makeup while Washington looks dapper in his navy tailored suit styled both by Elizabeth Stewart and Linda Medvene.
In their feature, the duo talk to Essence about their forthcoming movie based on the Tony award-winning screenplay by August Wilson. Set in Pittsburgh during the 1950s, "FENCES" highlights a former Negro league baseball player (Washington), now working as a waste collector, struggles to provide for his family and come to terms with the events of his life.
"Fences," directed by Denzel Washington, is from a screenplay by August Wilson, adapted from Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The film stars Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sydney. The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Denzel Washington and Todd Black.
