"Integrity is our only true currency." - Sophie Theallet
French designer Sophie Theallet, like most of us, was upset with the result of the 2016 Presidential Election. Our current President-Elect ran a hateful campaign fueled by racism, sexism, islamphobia and xenophobia which caused an strain in an already divided nation.
Being an immigrant in this country, Theallet feels the agenda the President-Elect pushed went against her core values...
"As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in anyway with the next First Lady."
For the past 8 years, Theallet had the honor of dressing our current First Lady Michelle Obama, a woman whose values, actions, and grace she resonates with...
"The rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia unleashed by [the First Lady-Elect's] husband's presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by."
Guilty by association is what is being discussed here.
Like clockwork, Theallet received backlash from the Presidential-Elect's supporters, but Theallet has a supporter in me! Theallet closes her press release urging for her fellow designers to do the same.
